ProCVA - Promotion of Agricultural Value Chains in Burkina Faso Project
Transforming Agriculture to Build Resilience and Create Jobs
In Burkina Faso, agriculture lies at the heart of the economy and livelihoods, yet it remains highly vulnerable to the combined effects of climate change and structural market weaknesses. In this framework, transforming agricultural value chains is a key lever for durably improving food security, stimulating economic growth, and creating opportunities for youth and women. The ProCVA project is designed to address exactly these challenges.
ProCVA at a Glance
Promotion of Agricultural Value Chains Project (ProCVA) aims to strengthen resilient, competitive, and market-oriented value chains in the rice and maize sectors in Burkina Faso. The project places the private sector at the core of agricultural transformation by fostering investment, economic partnerships, and innovation across the entire value chain. ProCVA is implemented by GIZ, within the framework of the regional MOVE programme, with co-financing from the European Union and the BMZ.
Objective
ProCVA aims to contribute to the creation of sustainable incomes and employment through the development of high-performing, inclusive, and resilient rice and maize agricultural value chains.
An Integrated "Field to Market" Approach
ProCVA intervenes across all links of the value chains to create a coherent and high-performing economic ecosystem:
- Production: Improving agricultural practices and climate resilience
- Processing: Increasing value addition and product quality
- Marketing / Consumption: Enhanced market access and structured market outlets
- Policy: Advocating for the adoption of appropriate and effective policies and legislation at the national level
In other words, the project works to sustainably connect producers, businesses, markets, and decision-makers.
Our Areas of Intervention
Our key areas of intervention include:
- Market Structuring and New Product Development: Developing sustainable economic partnerships between producers, cooperatives, and processing enterprises, notably through contract farming.
- Private Sector Development: Providing support to agricultural SMEs to enhance their competitiveness, access to finance, and investment capacity.
- Capacity Building: Training producers, cooperatives, and processing enterprises in technical skills, management, quality, and business models.
- Climate Resilience and Sustainability: Promoting agroecological practices, sustainable management of natural resources, and climate change adaptation through tailored, context-specific interventions.
- Economic Inclusion: Strengthening the participation of youth and women in agricultural value chains.
